Among the sectors, buying seen in the pharma and metal, while auto and
banking indices shed over 2 percent each. Indian shares pared all opening
gains to end lower on Friday dragged by selling in auto stocks,
primarily Eicher Motors and Tata Motors. Banks also contributed to the
losses including Axis Bank, SBI and ICICI Bank, which fell over 3 percent.
Broader indices remained in-line with the benchmarks, ending over a percent
lower.
Selling seen in the auto and banking names in the second half dragged the
Nifty and Sensex below the crucial levels of 11,200 and 38,000
respectively.At close, the Sensex was down 433.15 points or 1.13% at
37877.34, and the Nifty was down 122.10 points or 1.08% at 11178.40. About
1085 shares have advanced, 1600 shares declined, and 133 shares are
unchanged. Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, M&M, Bajaj Finance and Axis Bank
were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers were JSW Steel, Coal
India, Sun Pharma, Cipla and NTPC. Except metal and pharma all other
sectoral indices ended in the red. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended
0.5-1 percent lower.
