Google is going start food delivery services in India to take on Swiggy, Zomato

Tech giant Google is apparently planning to start offering restaurant food delivery services in India. Users will be able to place food orders directly on Google.com Google has started testing food delivery services in India. As per reports that Google’s food delivery business will allow users to directly make their orders on google.com and make their payment transactions directly.

Google may also collaborate with other third-party platforms for deliveries.

Anurag Katriar, president of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) told that Google’s entry in the business will be a game-changer because there is no one as big as Google as far as search is concerned.

It is to be noted that currently, app-based food delivery is almost a duopoly in India. Zomato and Swiggy hold 90% of the market share in the country. Earlier this year in January, UberEats was sold to Zomato. On the other hand, Ola is significantly scaling back in Foodpanda. In fact, Foodpanda is finding it difficult to survive in the business.

With Google in the food delivery market, Swiggy and Zomato etc.., may be in for some competition.

If the google delivery service materialises, users will be able to place food orders and customise menus on Google itself. This can be done by putting their addresses and partner services in the user’s area.
